BOARD MEETING RECAP

• Board Members Sworn In: Following the May election, returning board members were officially sworn in. The Board voted to retain its current leadership team, including Pete Rusek as President.
• Facility Study Committee Update: The Board heard an update from the Facility Study Committee, which is finalizing recommendations based on campus needs and community input.
• Student Recognitions: From state-bound athletes to standout scholars, this month’s meeting spotlighted exceptional student achievements across academics, fine arts, and extracurriculars. Visit Panther Nation News for full recognition coverage.
• Cell Phone Expectations: The Board reviewed proposed updates to student cell phone guidelines, with input from SHAC, staff, and parents. The goal: reduce distractions and ensure consistency across campuses.

• Teachers of the Year! Midway Independent School District proudly recognized three exceptional educators with its 2025 District Teachers of the Year awards, celebrating their outstanding dedication, innovation, and commitment to student success.
• Heart of the Panther: The 2025 Heart of the Panther Award celebrates the unsung heroes of Midway ISD — the non-instructional staff members whose dedication, kindness, and quiet strength keep our schools running and our hearts full.
• Online Registration Opens July 9: Registration for the 2025–26 school year opens July 9. Families are encouraged to register early to help campuses prepare for a smooth start and secure their child's seat at their campus. Visit www.midwayisd.org/backtoschool for information.
• Midway Softball Heads to the State Semi-Final: MHS Softball (29-2) has advanced to the Final Four in the 2025 State Softball Playoffs and will take on Flower Mound (24-7-1) in a best of 3 series at Midlothian HS. Game 1 will be Thursday, May 22, at 6 p.m. Game 2 will be Friday, May 23, at 2:30 p.m. Game 3 (if needed) will be Saturday at 4 p.m. For more information and tickets, click here.
• Baseball Advances to Regional Finals: MHS Baseball will face Klein Cain High School in a best of 3 series. Game 1 will be Thursday, May 22, at 6 p.m. at Texas A&M University. Game 2 will be Friday at 1 p.m. at Baylor University. Game 3 (if needed) will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at Jersey Village High School. For more information and tickets, click here.
