MISD Board Briefs August 2026

BOARD MEETING RECAP
Key highlights from our August 2026 Board of Trustees meeting:
- Lower Tax Rate Adopted: Trustees adopted a total tax rate of $0.9089, a 2.8-cent decrease from last year. The lower rate continues Midway’s long-term trend of stable or declining tax rates and saves approximately $28 annually for every $100,000 of taxable value.
- MHS Addition About $3 Million Under Budget: The Board approved a $13.7 million Guaranteed Maximum Price for the Midway High School addition. The full project is now projected at approximately $16.5 million — about $3 million below its original $19.9 million budget, creating potential savings for taxpayers or opportunities to accomplish more within the voter-approved bond program.
- Fine Arts in the Spotlight: Trustees received an annual Fine Arts update highlighting another big year for Midway students, including a 3rd-place state finish in One Act Play, 11 All-State musicians, six State VASE Gold Medalists and more than 500 students earning individual superior-achievement honors.
