Heart of the Panther: Honoring Midway's Everyday Heroes

The Heart of the Panther Award celebrates the unsung heroes of Midway ISD — the non-instructional staff members whose dedication, kindness, and quiet strength keep our schools running and our hearts full. These individuals don’t often stand at the front of the classroom, but their impact echoes through every hallway, office, and cafeteria. They are the first to arrive, the last to leave, the ones who jump in without being asked. From warm greetings at the front door to steady hands in moments of chaos, they show up every day with purpose and pride. This award honors those who serve with heart — those who lift others up, who go above and beyond in service to students, staff, and families, and who embody what it means to be Midway Strong. They are the heartbeat of our campuses. They are the Heart of the Panther.

Pam Hull – Instructional Assistant/Intervention, Speegleville Elementary

At Speegleville Elementary, few people embody the spirit of service and love like Ms. Pam Hull. Long before the first bell rings, Ms. Hull is already on campus, standing at her morning duty post by 7 a.m. Her day begins with smiles, warm greetings, and hugs — the kind that make students feel seen, safe, and ready to take on the day.

But her impact doesn’t stop at the school doors. Throughout the day, Ms. Hull works closely with small groups of students who need extra academic support. Whether helping a child sound out new words or offering encouragement when learning feels tough, she pours her energy into helping every student succeed.

When the lunch bell rings, Ms. Hull seamlessly shifts into a new role — supervising the cafeteria with the same calm and cheerful presence. She keeps expectations high and spirits higher, helping students navigate both their trays and their day.

At dismissal, she’s right back outside, sending students home with one last smile and a cheerful “Have a good day!” But what makes Ms. Hull even more remarkable is what she does off the clock. She often attends students’ extracurricular events, showing up in the stands and on the sidelines simply because she cares.

Reliable, joyful, and endlessly selfless, Ms. Hull is a cornerstone of the Speegleville community. She says yes without hesitation, serves without seeking recognition, and brings her whole heart to everything she does. She truly is the Heart of the Panther.

Angela Sears-Tolbert – Pre-K/4 Paraprofessional, South Bosque Elementary

At South Bosque Elementary, Angela Sears-Tolbert is so much more than a paraprofessional — she’s a source of joy, stability, and school pride. In the Pre-K/4 classroom, she supports our youngest learners with warmth, patience, and a deep sense of purpose. Whether helping a child navigate their morning routine or guiding them through early lessons, her steady presence helps lay the foundation for a lifelong love of learning.

But Angela’s influence reaches far beyond the classroom walls. Every morning, she’s at the door with a smile and a greeting, setting the tone for a positive, welcoming day. Her energy is contagious, and her willingness to help with anything — anytime, anywhere — makes her an essential part of the campus fabric.

What truly sets Angela apart is how she helps tell the story of South Bosque. As the campus’ volunteer “social media specialist,” she captures the moments that matter — from joyful celebrations to everyday wins — and shares them in a way that reflects the heart of the school. Through her lens, the pride, passion, and people of South Bosque shine.

Angela Sears-Tolbert brings heart, hustle, and a whole lot of Panther pride to everything she does. She is a difference-maker, and South Bosque is better because of her.

Shannon Olsen – Principal Secretary, Park Hill Elementary

At Park Hill Elementary, Shannon Olsen is more than a principal’s secretary — she’s the glue that holds it all together. Her journey with Midway ISD began years ago as a custodian, and through hard work, grit, and an unwavering commitment to excellence, she’s grown into one of the most trusted and valued members of the campus.

Shannon’s work ethic is unmatched. She never waits to be asked and never says, “That’s not my job.” Whether it’s supporting staff, comforting a student, or jumping into an unexpected task, Shannon is there — steady, reliable, and all-in. She’s built strong relationships across the campus, earning the respect and admiration of students, teachers, and families alike.

It’s no exaggeration to say that Park Hill couldn’t run without her. Shannon Olsen is the heartbeat of the building — always present, always helpful, and always putting others first. Her story is a powerful reminder that leadership isn’t about titles — it’s about service. And Shannon leads by example, every single day.

Isabel Navarro-Gonzalez  – ADC Paraprofessional, Spring Valley Elementary

At Spring Valley Elementary, Isabel Navarro-Gonzalez’s story is one of courage, growth, and relentless heart. She began her time on campus as the head custodian, quietly creating a safe and welcoming space for students to learn and grow. But Isabel’s dreams didn’t stop there. With determination and a deep love for students, she went back to school and stepped boldly into a new role — this time, working directly with children as an ADC paraprofessional.

Now, she’s a daily force of encouragement and connection. Isabel builds strong, trusting relationships with students, always finding ways to lift them up and help them succeed. Her impact is felt not just in the classroom, but in the lives she touches through her kindness, consistency, and joy.

Isabel’s journey is a reminder that the most powerful educators are those who lead with their heart. She is living proof that when passion meets purpose, incredible things happen. Spring Valley is proud to celebrate her — not just for what she does, but for who she is.

Carlee Glime – Behavior Support Paraprofessional, Woodway Elementary

At Woodway Elementary, Carlee Glime isn’t just part of the support staff — she’s part of the heartbeat of the campus. As a behavior support paraprofessional, Carlee brings more than just skill to her role; she brings enthusiasm, empathy, and an unshakable dedication to helping others thrive.

Every day, Carlee is checking in — with students who need a safe space, with teachers navigating tough behavior moments, and with colleagues who need a hand or a word of encouragement. She’s always there, ready to step in without hesitation, going far beyond what’s required and doing it all with a genuine smile.

Carlee is more than dependable — she’s transformational. Her feedback is thoughtful, her presence calming, and her support unwavering. She champions every student’s success and every teacher’s mission, uplifting those around her through both action and attitude.

Woodway is stronger because of Carlee Glime. She sets the tone for teamwork, compassion, and excellence — and she does it all quietly, humbly, and wholeheartedly.

Jordan McLeod – Instructional & Behavior Paraprofessional, Chapel Park Elementary

At Chapel Park Elementary, the name Jordan McLeod carries weight — not because she seeks the spotlight, but because she earns trust, inspires calm, and quietly makes everything (and everyone) around her better.

As an instructional and behavior paraprofessional, Jordan is the go-to for both students and staff. Her presence is constant and steady, offering support without needing to be asked, and showing up — fully — every single day. Whether she’s designing personalized check-ins, leading social skills lessons, or stepping in to provide push-in or pull-out support, her goal is always the same: help students stay in class, stay engaged, and feel understood.

But Jordan’s real gift is deeper than her duties. She has an extraordinary ability to see the root of a challenge and respond with empathy, not just strategy. She meets students in their hardest moments and gives teachers a lifeline when their patience is stretched thin. Her calm demeanor and servant heart bring peace to chaos and hope to hard days.

Beyond the campus walls, Jordan’s heart for service continues. As a mom, business partner, volunteer, and Girl Scout leader, she balances life’s demands with remarkable grace. And still, she finds time to pour into the CPE community — not out of obligation, but out of love.

Jordan McLeod is the kind of person every school dreams of having. At Chapel Park, she’s more than a staff member — she’s the heart. And while this award may be small in comparison to her daily impact, it’s a deeply deserved recognition of someone who gives her all, every day, with humility and heart.

Rosa Duch – RTI Paraprofessional, Castleman Creek Elementary

At Castleman Creek Elementary, Rosa Duch is known for one thing above all else: her light. As an RTI paraprofessional, Rosa doesn’t just support students—she uplifts an entire campus. Her warm smile, encouraging spirit, and unwavering positivity set the tone wherever she goes.

Each day, Rosa shows up with a servant’s heart and a can-do attitude. She’s the first to jump in when someone needs help, whether it’s a student struggling with a concept, a teacher needing an extra hand, or a family looking for support. Her flexibility and quiet strength allow her to wear many hats, and she wears each one with purpose and grace.

But what truly makes Rosa irreplaceable is the way she makes people feel. She doesn’t just complete tasks—she builds relationships. Her presence brings peace. Her words bring encouragement. And her actions reflect deep commitment to the students and staff she serves.

Castleman Creek is better, brighter, and more compassionate because Rosa Duch is a part of it. She is, without question, the heart of her campus.

Mara Zamora – Resource assistant, Hewitt Elementary

Walk the halls of Hewitt Elementary, and you’ll quickly feel the influence of Mara Zamora. As a dedicated resource assistant, Mara brings heart, creativity, and compassion to every corner of the campus—from the students she serves to the bulletin boards she designs with purpose and pride.

Mara’s day begins and ends with kindness. She greets students with warmth, offers hugs that calm nerves, and delivers pep talks that encourage even the most uncertain learners. In small group settings, she creates safe spaces for students to grow—celebrating their progress, cheering their victories, and helping them believe in themselves.

But Mara’s impact stretches far beyond her job title. She co-leads the Hewitt Media Team, works with students across grade levels, and steps in to support teachers whenever and wherever she’s needed. Whether helping a student regulate emotions, collaborating on campus-wide initiatives, or simply offering a kind word, Mara leads with heart and purpose in everything she does.

Her beautifully crafted bulletin boards don’t just decorate the school—they reflect its soul. They celebrate student voice, highlight diversity, and remind everyone that each child belongs. Mara doesn’t just support learning; she inspires it, building a culture where every student is seen, valued, and empowered.

At Hewitt Elementary, Mara Zamora is more than a resource assistant—she’s a constant source of light, hope, and inspiration. And this recognition is a small reflection of the enormous difference she makes every single day.

David Gomez – IBIS Assistant, River Valley Middle School

At River Valley Middle School, there’s one name that comes up anytime someone needs help, support, or a problem solved — David Gomez. Known affectionately as the campus “Superman,” David is the kind of person who shows up before you even know you need him.

As the IBIS Assistant, David wears countless hats — and somehow makes it look effortless. Whether it’s jumping into a classroom, helping with behavior support, solving a facilities issue, or just offering a word of encouragement, he’s always there, ready to help with a calm demeanor and a servant’s heart.

His role may be behind the scenes, but his impact is front and center. Teachers trust him. Students respect him. The entire RVMS community knows they can count on him. He doesn’t do it for recognition — he does it because he genuinely cares.

David Gomez is more than a jack of all trades. He’s a steady presence, a quiet problem-solver, and the person who holds it all together when things get tough. River Valley runs smoother — and stronger — because of him.

Dina Pinales – Testing Lab Paraprofessional, Midway Middle School

At Midway Middle School, the testing lab is more than a place for exams — it’s a place of connection, encouragement, and growth, thanks to the incredible presence of Dina Pinales. As the Testing Lab Paraprofessional, Dina brings compassion, wisdom, and unwavering support to every student who walks through her door.

Dina’s influence extends far beyond the academic setting. She has a remarkable gift for seeing each student as an individual, asking thoughtful questions about their lives, their goals, and their dreams — and most importantly, she listens. With warmth and gentle humor, she helps students navigate not just schoolwork, but life. Her approach is grounded in experience, empathy, and a deep belief in the potential of every child.

But Dina’s dedication doesn’t stop there. She is a constant support to her colleagues, often adjusting her own schedule to fill in where she’s needed. Whether offering a listening ear or stepping up during a busy day, Dina leads with selflessness and grace.

Her impact is clear: students visit the testing lab not just to take a test, but because they feel safe, heard, and valued. Dina has created a space where every child knows they matter — and that kind of legacy can’t be measured in test scores.

Midway Middle School is better because Dina Pinales is in it. She’s not only a trusted educator, but a mentor, an encourager, and a shining example of what it means to lead with heart.

Kelly Allen – Receptionist, Midway High School

At Midway High School, the first voice you hear, the first smile you see, and the calm presence that anchors the front office belongs to Kelly Allen. As the school's receptionist, Kelly is more than a greeter — she’s the steady, welcoming heartbeat of the campus.

Kelly manages the front lines of the high school with extraordinary poise. From answering nonstop phone calls to assisting visitors, managing deliveries, calming concerns, and fielding everything from simple questions to high-pressure situations — she does it all with grace, kindness, and professionalism.

She is the face of Midway High School, and that’s no small role. Kelly often handles the good, the bad, and the unpredictable from parents and the public, serving as a buffer, a problem-solver, and a voice of reassurance. She diffuses tension with calm and treats every person who walks through the door with respect and warmth — even in the most difficult moments.

For students and staff alike, she’s a source of comfort and consistency. Always thoughtful, always composed, and always willing to help, Kelly Allen sets the tone for the entire building.

Her work is often unseen but always essential. She is, in every sense, the first impression — and a lasting one. Midway High is lucky to have her at the front desk, and even luckier to have her heart behind it.
