BOARD MEETING RECAP
Key highlights from our December 2025 Board of Trustees meeting:
- Board Reorganization: The Midway ISD Board of Trustees completed its annual reorganization, including the election of board officers for the coming year. Trustees reaffirmed their commitment to strong governance, collaborative leadership, and student-centered decision-making.
- 2026–2027 Academic Calendar Approved : Trustees approved the district’s 2026–2027 academic calendar following extensive staff and parent input. The calendar reflects priorities important to Midway families, including a full week for Thanksgiving, two weeks for winter break, alignment with local college schedules, and a school year that ends before Memorial Day.
- Bond Finance Plan & Delivery Method : The board received information on the proposed bond finance plan and delivery method, outlining how projects would be sequenced and managed to ensure efficiency, transparency, and fiscal responsibility as the district continues long-range facilities planning.
- Student & Staff Recognitions : Trustees celebrated December recognition days, including National Special Education Day and Computer Science Education Week, along with outstanding student achievements in fine arts and academics.
NEWS TO KNOW
- H-E-B Excellence in Education Finalists: Midway ISD has advanced to the final round of the H-E-B Excellence in Education Awards and is officially ranked among the top three small school districts in Texas. This elite statewide recognition celebrates districts that excel in leadership, student achievement, and community impact—and Midway stands at the very top. Winners will be announced in the Spring.
- U.S. News Best Elementary Rankings: Three Midway ISD elementary schools earned statewide recognition in the U.S. News 2026 Best Elementary Schools rankings. South Bosque Elementary ranked among the top 50 schools in Texas, while Woodway and Hewitt elementary schools also placed in the Top 500 statewide—reinforcing district-wide excellence and consistency.
- In the News: Midway ISD is exploring a potential Virtual School option for students in grades 6–12. The district is gathering interest and feedback as it considers flexible online and hybrid learning opportunities to expand choice and better meet student needs.
