BOARD MEETING RECAP

‍Key highlights from our September 2026 Board of Trustees meeting:

• Strong STAAR Results: Final 2025-26 results show Midway students outperformed the state in nearly every tested grade level and subject. The district posted overall growth in 12 of 18 tested areas, while Masters performance increased in 13 of 18 areas. At the Meets and Masters levels, Midway exceeded the state in 34 of 36 comparisons. • Bond Projects Moving Forward: Construction of the Midway High School addition remains on schedule for completion by July 31, 2027. The building pad is complete, pier work is beginning and utility relocations have been completed. Trustees also received updates on campus roofing and HVAC improvements, safety and technology upgrades, 24 new buses and a new bus wash. View the full bond progress presentation.
• Recognitions: From coaches stepping up to support fine arts to national honors for MCJROTC, trustees celebrated students and staff whose service, leadership and teamwork exemplify the Midway Way.

NEWS TO KNOW

• Midway High School Marine Corps JROTC Named No. 1 Nationally, Earns Third Consecutive Naval Honor School Title: Midway High School’s Marine Corps JROTC has been named the No. 1 program in its category, ranking in the top 3% of all 244 units across the nation.
• Goal Tenders Clinic: Join the MHS Goal Tenders for a morning of fun from 9 a.m.-noon Saturday, Oct. 3, at Midway High School. Participants will receive a clinic T-shirt and perform at the Midway Homecoming Community Pep Rally on Oct. 14. Register through MySchoolBucks by Sept. 17 to guarantee T-shirt availability. Walk-up registration is $40, cash only, with limited shirts available.
• Science Meets Soccer: Park Hill Elementary students turned World Cup excitement into hands-on STEM learning. Fourth graders tested how surfaces and wind affect a soccer ball’s movement, while second graders designed and built miniature soccer fields—combining science, engineering, teamwork and creativity. • Unity Day: Midway High School MCJROTC students led the campus’s annual Unity Day observance on Sept. 11, bringing students, staff and community members together around service, leadership and national unity. Read more.
• Community Bulletin Board: This month’s featured event is the McLennan County Master Gardeners’ free Children’s Garden Fair from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 25, at Pape Gardens. Families can enjoy a scavenger hunt, crafts and hands-on learning stations about gardening in Central Texas. Children must be accompanied by an adult. • Statewide School Safety Survey: Please help the Texas School Safety Center learn more about parent perspectives on firearms storage. All responses are greatly appreciated. Take the survey.
  

BOND IN ACTION

• Bond Oversight Committee Begins Work: More than 20 community members participated in the first Bond Oversight Committee meeting on Sept. 10. Members reviewed project progress, expenditures and timelines and discussed continued public access to bond information. The committee will meet quarterly to support transparency and accountability throughout the 2025 bond program. View the committee’s meeting materials online.
