BOARD MEETING RECAP

Key highlights from our March 2026 Board of Trustees meeting:

  • District Annual Report: Midway Delivers: Midway ISD shared its 2024–25 Annual Report, highlighting strong academic performance across the district. Students continue to outperform the state, region, and comparable districts in all STAAR-tested areas, College, Career, and Military Readiness (CCMR), and TSIA. The district maintained its A – Superior Achievement rating, reinforcing Midway’s commitment to excellence and continuous improvement.
  • Special Populations Update: The Board received an update on Special Education and Section 504 programs, which highlighted continued student growth, strong compliance, and upcoming changes to the state’s funding model. The update also highlighted partnerships and services supporting students across the district.
  • School Bus Safety Requirements (SB 546): Trustees reviewed new state requirements mandating three-point seat belts on all school buses. The update included the district’s current fleet status, cost considerations, and planning efforts to meet the requirement in the coming years.
  • Board of Trustees Election Cancelled: The Board approved an order of cancellation for the May 2026 trustee election after both positions on the ballot were uncontested. Incumbents Jordan Barry and Susan Vick are declared elected and will be sworn in during the May board meeting.
  • Panther Pride: The Board of Trustees during the recognition portion of its meeting recognized students and staff across the district for excellence in arts, CTE and more.

  • Midway High School Addition Project Progress: Trustees reviewed the schematic design for the Midway High School addition and approved Mazanec Construction as the Construction Manager at Risk (CMAR), allowing the project to move into the next phase. The addition includes a new practice gym, expanded locker rooms, and spaces to support both athletics and student programming, including testing and inclusive programs.
  • Campus-based Projects Moving Foward: Additional projects approved by voters continue to move forward, including flooring at Spring Valley Elementary, new roofing across the district and more. Planning and design milestones are underway as the district prepares for construction.
