Midway High School Addition Project Advances

The Midway High School addition project is moving from concept to construction, as trustees reviewed the schematic design and approved the construction manager for the project at their March meeting.

The project includes a new 23,000-square-foot practice gym designed to support physical education, basketball, and volleyball, with seating for approximately 175 spectators. Plans also include new locker rooms for volleyball, wrestling, and football, expanded coaching and meeting spaces, and a mezzanine level dedicated to cheer practice.

In addition to athletics, the new space will serve broader campus needs. The gym will provide space for large-scale testing and support inclusive programs such as Partners PE and Partners Dance, where general education and special education students participate together.

The addition is designed to expand capacity at Midway High School and better align facilities with the size and growth of the campus. It also addresses critical support needs through expanded training areas, improved rehabilitation and treatment space, and enhanced functionality for both students and staff.

Designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing campus, the addition will be located near current athletic facilities and reflect the same architectural style as the high school.

Trustees approved a contract with Mazanec Construction as the Construction Manager At-Risk (CMAR) and authorized the superintendent to execute the agreement, allowing the project to move into its next phase. Construction is anticipated to begin in fall 2026, with completion targeted for summer 2027 in time for the 2027–28 school year.

The total project is currently estimated at approximately $19.3 million, coming in under the $19.9 million bond allocation at this stage of design.

This project represents a continued investment in student opportunities, supporting excellence in academics, activities, and inclusive programming across Midway ISD.
