March Board Briefs: Recognitions

During the March meeting of the Midway ISD Board of Trustees, students and staff were honored for their exceptional achievements and meaningful contributions that have positively impacted the district and its community.

Recognitions included:

PTA State Reflections

Midway ISD students were recognized in the Texas PTA Reflections program, a statewide arts competition that encourages students to express themselves creatively through visual arts, literature, photography, music composition, dance choreography, and more.

Students from several Midway campuses earned state-level recognition, including Awards of Merit and Honorable Mentions across multiple artistic categories. These honors reflect the creativity, talent, and dedication of our students as well as the support of their teachers and families.

TAFE State Competition & National Qualifiers

Midway High School students recently competed at the Texas Association of Future Educators (TAFE) State Competition, where they demonstrated their skills and passion for the teaching profession through events focused on instructional design, educational research, and classroom communication.

Under the leadership of teacher Vanessa Dulock, these Midway students delivered an outstanding performance.

A total of eight students qualified to advance to the national competition, an impressive achievement that highlights the strength of Midway’s Career and Technical Education programs and the next generation of future educators.

CyberPatriot State Competition

Midway High School students recently competed in the CyberPatriot State Competition, the nation’s premier youth cybersecurity program. CyberPatriot challenges students to develop critical cybersecurity skills by identifying and fixing vulnerabilities in simulated computer systems while defending networks from cyber threats.

Under the leadership of coaches Susan Jones and Jeremy McCarver, these Midway students demonstrated strong technical skills, teamwork, and problem-solving during the January state competition:

Their participation reflects the strength of Midway’s STEM programs and the growing importance of cybersecurity education for the next generation of technology leaders.

TSPRA State STAR Awards

The Midway ISD Communications Department earned statewide recognition at the 2025 Texas School Public Relations Association (TSPRA) STAR Awards, one of the highest honors for school communications and marketing in Texas.

Communications Director Emily Parks and Communications Systems Coordinator Robert Pryor were recognized across multiple categories—including marketing, publications, video production, and advocacy communications—earning one Crystal Certificate of Merit, the program’s highest level of recognition, along with three Gold awards, three Silver awards, and one Bronze award.

These honors reflect the strength of Midway ISD’s strategic communication and marketing efforts and the team’s commitment to sharing the stories, achievements, and impact of Midway students, staff, and schools with the community.
