Midway ISD has once again earned an A rating from the Texas Education Agency, with strong campus performance, dozens of distinction designations and measurable improvements, continuing a record of strong academic performance and student success across the district.
The state accountability system evaluates performance in three primary areas: Student Achievement, School Progress and Closing the Gaps.
For Midway, the A rating reflects much more than a single year of test results.
“This is what sustained excellence looks like,” Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning, Dr. Becky Odajima said. “An A is certainly something to celebrate but what matters most is what is behind the letter – students learning at high levels, students continuing to grow and educators responding when there are opportunities to improve.”
The accountability system incorporates multiple measures of student performance, including STAAR results, academic growth, graduation rates and college, career and military readiness.
In addition to A–F ratings, TEA awards Distinction Designations to campuses that demonstrate exceptional achievement when compared with a group of approximately 40 schools of similar type, size, grade span and student demographics.
Those distinctions provide another lens into Midway's performance.
- Woodway Elementary earned every distinction available to the campus, receiving recognition for Academic Achievement in Reading/ELA, Mathematics and Science; Top 25 Percent Comparative Academic Growth; Top 25 Percent Comparative Closing the Gaps; and Postsecondary Readiness.
- Midway High School earned six distinctions, recognizing achievement in Reading/ELA, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies, as well as Comparative Academic Growth and Postsecondary Readiness.
- River Valley Middle School also earned six distinctions and added Comparative Academic Growth to its list of honors this year. River Valley earned distinctions in Reading/ELA, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Comparative Academic Growth and Postsecondary Readiness.
- Midway Middle School, which improved an entire letter grade this year, earned 2 distinctions - in Reading/ELA and Science.
- Park Hill Elementary and Spring Valley Elementary each earned five distinction designations, while South Bosque and Chapel Park each earned four.
- The district earned distinction in Postsecondary Readiness.
For Midway leaders, those recognitions are particularly meaningful because campuses are not simply being compared with a statewide average. Distinction designations recognize campuses that outperform schools with similar characteristics.
“Our goal has never been simply to earn a letter grade,” Midway ISD Superintendent Dr. Chris Allen said. “Our responsibility is to make sure every student is challenged, supported and prepared for what comes next. The A is one measure that tells us we are doing that work well, while continuing to look for ways to get better.”
The achievement is also shared beyond the classroom. Parents, families and community partners play an important role in supporting students and maintaining the high expectations that have become a hallmark of Midway schools.
“Our 2026 A rating gives families another reason to celebrate the work happening throughout Midway ISD — and another benchmark from which the district will continue moving forward,” Allen said.
