December Board Briefs: Recognitions

During the December meeting of the Midway ISD Board of Trustees, students and staff were honored for their exceptional achievements and meaningful contributions that have positively impacted the district and its community.

Recognitions included:

Foundation for Music Education’s Mark of Excellence

Aiden Hyatt and Colt Everett delivered standout, nationally recognized performances in the Foundation for Music Education’s prestigious Mark of Excellence competition. Aiden earned honors for his virtuosic piccolo solo in Malcolm Arnold’s _Tam O’Shante_r, while Colt was recognized for his expressive tenor saxophone solo in Omar Thomas’s Come Sunday. Their achievements exemplify artistic excellence, relentless work ethic, and the elevated performance culture of our program.

MHS Capitol Christmas Ornament

Midway High School senior Sakina Qureshi has created a one-of-a-kind ornament to represent Texas House District 56 on the 2025 Texas Capitol Christmas Tree. Each ornament displayed on the Capitol tree is handcrafted by an artist chosen from their respective district—only one design per district is featured statewide.

2025 Holiday Card Art Students

Midway Middle School artists helped spread holiday cheer across the district this year, with student artwork featured on the 2025 District Holiday Card. The selected pieces showcase the creativity and talent of 8th graders Joley Turner, Dayton McCowin, Riley Sousa, Adelyn Taylor, Azaria Anderson, and Kylie Wheeler, along with 6th graders Samuel Dunphy, Spencer Gallegos, Audrey Ames, Christopher Skinner, Linda Lam, Annaliyah Rodriguez, Necla Ege, and Vi Ho. Their work represents the heart of Midway’s fine arts program and the incredible imagination of our students.

U.S. News 2026 Best Elementary and Middle Schools Rankings

Midway ISD continues to deliver top-tier outcomes, with three elementary campuses earning statewide distinction in U.S. News Elementary Best Schools. South Bosque Elementary earned a top-50 state finish, ranking #46 in Texas out of more than 5,400 schools nationwide. Woodway Elementary School ranked #469 in Texas, while Hewitt Elementary School finished #471—nearly side-by-side among the Top 500 elementary schools in the state, reinforcing district-wide consistency.
