September Board Briefs: Recognitions

During the September meeting of the Midway ISD Board of Trustees, students and staff were honored for their exceptional achievements and meaningful contributions that have positively impacted the district and its community.

Recognitions included:

Midway High School MCJROTC Named Naval Honor School
Midway High School’s Marine Corps Junior ROTC (MCJROTC) program has earned the prestigious recognition of Naval Honor School for 2025, the second consecutive year they’ve received this award. This honor is awarded to the top 20% of units nationwide, recognizing outstanding performance in academics, drill, leadership, and community service. The designation reflects the dedication of Midway cadets and instructors in developing leadership, discipline, and civic responsibility. The Midway High School MCJROTC unit is led by Lt. Col. Jake Urban.

2025 Campus and District Teachers of the Year
Midway ISD proudly recognizes the 2025 Campus and District Teachers of the Year, who exemplify excellence in teaching and a steadfast commitment to students:

National Merit Semifinalists

Three Midway High School seniors have been named National Merit Scholarship Program Semifinalists for 2025:

  • Zoe Betancis
  • Lily Lu
  • Kennedy Williams

These students rank among the top high school scholars nationwide based on their outstanding academic performance and PSAT/NMSQT results. This recognition places them in the top 1% of U.S. high school seniors and advances them in the competition for National Merit Scholarships. Midway High School is led by principal, Alison Smith.
