The Midway Pantherettes claimed their third state championship with a 9–1 win over League City Clear Springs in the Class 6A Division I final. Junior pitcher Peyton Philipp earned MVP honors after striking out 11 and allowing just one run in a complete-game performance. Midway (32–3) took control early, scoring twice in the first and adding five more in a big third inning. Lanee Brown led the offense with a 3-for-3 day, while key contributions came from Lillian Davis, Amaya Locke, Kallei Alvarado, and Jayden Sadler. Head coach Jordan Williams celebrated her first title as coach—and her birthday—with the win. The Pantherettes capped a dominant season with a performance that showcased poise, power, and championship-level execution.
The Midway Panthers captured their first Class 6A state baseball title—and their first championship since 2003—with a 6–2 victory over Atascocita on June 7. Junior pitcher Brody Potts earned tournament MVP honors after delivering 4⅔ shutout innings in relief. He was joined on the All-Tournament Team by Jackson Goldstritch, Dru Ohmstede, TJ Woodson, and Canyon Martin. Key plays included Ohmstede’s successful hidden ball trick that stopped a critical rally in the fifth inning. Midway’s balanced offense and strong defense sealed the win and capped off a 33–8 season. Coach Eddie Cornblum called the championship a testament to the players’ character and dedication.
The history-making 4x400 meter relay team that won Midway High School's first-ever state championship in the event was inducted into the Midway Athletic Hall of Fame.
Troy Simonek, head coach of the Midway High School TennisTeam, is celebrating 24 years at the helm of a program that has become a local powerhouse. Under his guidance, the team has won the District Championship fo 23 consecutive years.
Midway High School senior Lauryn Kosel was honored as the City of Waco Female Athlete of the Year and won the Texas Amateur Athletic Federation's Region 5 Female Athlete of the Year title.
