Midway ISD Expands Teacher Incentive Allotment, Recognizing More Educators Than Ever

Midway ISD continues to invest in excellence through the state’s Teacher Incentive Allotment (TIA), with more teachers than ever qualifying and being submitted for designation based on their work toward student growth during the 2024–2025 school year.

This year, Midway will submit 132 new or higher-level designations to the state: 35 Recognized, 49 Exemplary, and 48 Master. Once verified by TIA in April, these will bring the district’s total to more than 200 designated teachers—a milestone that reflects both the quality of instruction across Midway and the continued expansion of eligible teaching groups.

“When we launched the program in 2021, we began with five teacher eligibility groups,” said Dr. Becky Odajima, Assistant Superintendent for Teaching & Learning. “That number has now grown to eleven, and we continue to expand eligibility each year. Each new submission cycle brings both new and higher designations as our teachers pursue excellence for their students.”

Since implementation, the impact has been remarkable:

  • 2022–2023: 92 teachers submitted and verified for designation
  • 2023–2024: 148 total designated teachers
  • 2024–2025: 203 teachers qualified and submitted for verification

With verification expected this spring, the district anticipates approximately $1.84 million in teacher incentive payments for those designations, fully reimbursed by the state.

Beyond the financial reward, TIA is a reflection of Midway’s ongoing commitment to student growth and instructional excellence.

“TIA is about more than compensation,” Dr. Odajima said. “It’s about recognizing the expertise and dedication that drive growth in every classroom across Midway ISD.”

Midway has been an approved TIA district since 2021 and continues to expand eligible groups to include areas such as ESL, special education, fine arts, and more.
