The People Behind Our Schools: Celebrating Midway Principals

A principal’s day can begin with a greeting at the front door and move quickly through classroom visits, student celebrations, family conversations and the unexpected moments that come with leading a school. Through it all, Midway’s principals keep their focus on the people who make each campus a community.

October is National Principals Month, a chance to recognize the leaders who support students and staff every day.

“Our principals set the tone for their campuses,” Superintendent Dr. Chris Allen said. “They build trust with families, support their staff and make sure every student has a place to belong. You can see the Midway Way in how they show up for people each day.”

Principals help teachers do their best work, partner with families and make decisions that shape how students experience school. They celebrate achievements and work through challenges, often while making time for one more conversation with a student or parent.

“School leadership takes both skill and heart,” said Dr. Ashley Canuteson, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. “Our principals invest in their teams, help people grow and create the conditions for great teaching. I’m grateful for the care they bring to that work.”

Each Midway school has its own personality, and its principal helps bring that community together around a shared commitment to students. This month, we’re grateful for their judgment, steady presence and dedication, and recognize our Midway ISD principals:

  • Midway High School: Alison Smith
  • Midway Middle School: Kayla Brown
  • River Valley Middle School: Dr. Heather Metzgar
  • Castleman Creek Elementary: Dr. Clint Glaesman
  • Chapel Park Elementary: Kim Hawkins
  • Hewitt Elementary: Christy Watley
  • Park Hill Elementary: Nicole Fanning
  • South Bosque Elementary: Mandi Bronstad
  • Spring Valley Elementary: Kristi Ingram
  • Woodway Elementary: Dr. Nicole Grygar

If a Midway principal has made a difference for your family, October is a wonderful time to tell them. A quick note or a simple thank-you can mean a great deal to someone who spends each day showing up for others.
