Midway ISD Drops Transfer Fee to Expand Access, Choice

The Midway Independent School District Board of Trustees at its regular January meeting approved a policy update eliminating the interdistrict transfer fee beginning with the 2026–27 school year.

The change amends FDA(LOCAL): Admissions – Interdistrict Transfers, removing the current $1,000 annual transfer fee for nonresident students while maintaining all academic, attendance, discipline, and capacity requirements for transfer eligibility.

“This decision reflects who we are as a district,” said district leadership. “Midway ISD is focused on removing unnecessary barriers while continuing to deliver high-quality academic programs, strong student supports, and a well-rounded educational experience.”

The policy supports Midway ISD’s broader district priorities, which emphasize:

  • Meaningful family choice
  • Access to high-performing schools and programs
  • Clear value for students and families
  • Responsible stewardship of district resources

District leaders anticipate the removal of the transfer fee will make Midway ISD more accessible to families seeking an exceptional educational experience, while increased transfer interest may help offset the loss of fee revenue.

Midway ISD will continue to review transfer applications annually to ensure decisions support student success, maintain appropriate campus capacity, and align with district standards.

Additional information about transfer eligibility and application timelines will be shared ahead of the 2026–27 school year.
