The Midway ISD Board of Trustees has appointed Stephen Carl to fill the vacant Place VII position on the Board following a comprehensive selection process.

Mr. Carl brings a unique blend of legal expertise, military leadership, and community service to the role. He currently serves as a family law attorney, where his work focuses on supporting children and families, and he regularly collaborates with educators and community partners.
Prior to his legal career, Mr. Carl served as a U.S. Army officer and Medevac helicopter pilot, leading teams in high-stakes environments and earning multiple honors for his service. His leadership experience is complemented by active involvement in Midway ISD, including service on the district’s Facilities Committee and his prior involvement with Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) supporting children in foster care.
Mr. Carl and his family are deeply rooted in Midway ISD. As a parent of six children and the spouse of a Midway educator, he brings both professional insight and a personal commitment to the success of students and schools.
“I am honored to serve the Midway community in this role,” said Mr. Carl. “Midway ISD plays a critical role in shaping not only student success, but the strength of our entire community. I look forward to supporting thoughtful decision-making that reflects what is best for students while continuing to build on the district’s tradition of excellence.”
Board President Susan Vick expressed confidence in the appointment.
“Stephen brings a strong sense of service, integrity, and perspective to the board,” said Vick. “His leadership experience and commitment to students and families make him an excellent addition to the Midway ISD Board of Trustees. We are excited to welcome him and look forward to his contributions.”
Carl will officially assume his role at the regular May board meeting.
