June Board Briefs: Recognitions

During the June meeting of the Midway ISD Board of Trustees, students and staff were honored for their exceptional achievements and meaningful contributions that have positively impacted the district and its community.

Recognitions included:

Counselor Honors
Two Midway counselors have recently been honored for their excellence in student support and leadership. Kendal Jarrett of Woodway Elementary was selected as a Region 12 Elite Elementary Counselor, a distinction awarded to counselors who go above and beyond to serve students and families. Kendal’s compassionate support and dedication make a daily impact on the Woodway campus and beyond. Cindy Cates of Midway High School was recognized at the Texas School Counselor Association Conference, receiving the Rhosine Fleming Award for Middle School Counselor of the Year. This statewide honor celebrates exemplary service, advocacy, and commitment to students. Although now serving at the high school, this award highlights her tremendous impact during her time at MMS.

Hunger Free Partners Recognized for Year-Round Support
Midway ISD extends heartfelt thanks to two groups whose dedication has been vital to the continued success of the Hunger Free Midway program. Jordan Johnson and the Midway PALS have provided consistent support by organizing, packing, and delivering meals to students. Their service-minded approach and dependable efforts have made a meaningful impact on families throughout the district. Additionally, Jimmy Bennett and the Maintenance Department have played a crucial behind-the-scenes role, offering year-round assistance with logistics, transportation, and storage. Their commitment ensures the program runs efficiently and effectively. Midway ISD is grateful for the teamwork, reliability, and heart these groups bring to supporting students in need.

Midway High School Softball State Championship
Waco Midway Pantherettes captured the 2025 UIL Class 6A Division I State Softball Championship, defeating League City Clear Springs 9–1 in the title game on May 31, 2025, at Red & Charline McCombs Field in Austin. The team finished the season with a 31–3 record, marking their third UIL softball state title in school history (previous wins in 1998 and 2010). This win capped off an undefeated playoff run and a season of redemption following their 2024 runner‑up finish. Congratulations to Coach Jordan Williams and the entire team—players, staff, and supporters—for this milestone season that brings immense pride to Midway ISD and our Panther community!

Midway High School Baseball State Championship
The Midway High School Panthers baseball won the 2025 UIL Class 6A Division I State Baseball Championship.The team closed out the season with a 33–8 record, capped by a dominant 6–2 victory over Atascocita on June 7, 2025 at Dell Diamond. This marks Midway’s second baseball state title (first since 2003). Congratulations to Coach Eddie Cornblum  and the entire team – players, staff and supporters – for this milestone season.
