For Paityn Carter, golf has never been just about talent. It has been about consistency, discipline, and learning how to compete through every challenge the game brings.

The Midway High School senior recently closed out her high school career with a top-10 finish at the UIL Class 6A State Golf Tournament, placing her among the top golfers in Texas.
“When I realized I finished in the top 10, it was awesome,” Carter said. “It made all the hard work worth it.”
Carter said this season was one of the strongest of her career. She captured another district championship and advanced through regionals, continuing a successful run for the girls golf program.
Carter first picked up golf at age 10 and became competitive by 11. Compared to many elite golfers who begin training much younger, she considers herself a late starter.
Still, her growth in the sport came quickly.
Inspired by professional golfers like Nelly Korda, Scottie Scheffler, and Jordan Spieth, Carter developed a passion for the game and committed herself to improving every aspect of her performance.
While her state tournament results were exciting, Carter said she was most proud of how she handled the pressure and adversity of competing at the state level.
“What I’m most proud of is that even when my shots weren’t exactly where I wanted them, I figured out how to keep playing good golf,” she said. “At state, you have to stay focused and adjust.”
One of her favorite memories from the tournament? Nearly making a hole-in-one — a moment she said she will always remember.
Golf’s mental demands are part of what Carter loves most about the sport. She credits her coaches, especially Midway High School Golf Coach Bill Sharp, with helping her stay composed and confident throughout the season.
“My coach was by my side the whole time,” Carter said. “He just kept reminding me to stay focused.”

"Paityn’s consistency, hard work, and dedication have led to her success," Sharp said. "In addition, she has been a model student in the classroom and a great teammate."
Behind the scenes, Carter’s success has been built through countless hours of preparation. In addition to practicing daily, she studies course management, works on stretching, strength and mobility and her short game skills, has a swing coach, and watches instructional videos to improve every part of her game.
“We practice seven days a week,” she said. “A lot of people don’t see all the little things that go into competing at this level.”
Through golf, Carter said she has developed a stronger sense of resilience and confidence in herself.
“I’ve learned that my work ethic is strong,” she said. “I’ve had setbacks, but I’ve also learned how to fight through them and keep improving.”
She also credits her parents, coaches, teammates, and supporters throughout her journey for helping her reach this point.
Representing Midway on one of the biggest stages in Texas high school athletics meant a great deal to Carter, who hopes her success shines a light on the district’s golf program.
“Midway golf can do big things,” she said. “It’s exciting to show what our program is capable of.”
And Sharp agrees.
"In her last four years of high school, she has raised the bar of the girl’s golf program," he said. "I’ve enjoyed getting to know Paityn, watching her grow as a person, and look forward to following her path forward."
After graduation, Carter plans to continue her golf career at the collegiate level, beginning at McLennan Community College while exploring future opportunities to continue competing.
