Midway ISD has begun implementing projects approved through the 2025 Bond Program, including the first purchase of new school buses to support student transportation needs across the district.

As part of this initial phase, the district ordered 14 of the 30 buses included in the bond program. The first delivery—four new special education buses—arrived on January 9, 2026, with the remaining buses scheduled for delivery at a later date.
The four special education buses represent an investment of approximately $636,000 of the approximately $6 million budgeted for new buses and are equipped with enhanced safety and accessibility features designed to support both students and drivers. In addition to the special education buses, the district has also ordered 10 general route buses as part of this first round of purchases.

“The Bond 2025 program allows us to make strategic investments in areas that directly support students and daily operations,” said Ken Wolf, Director of Operations. “Replacing aging equipment like school buses is an important part of maintaining safe, reliable systems across the district while protecting the district’s operating budget.”
The new buses include the latest safety technology and design improvements, such as:
- Adaptive cruise control to support safer driving conditions
- Illuminated stop arms and illuminated rear stop signs to increase visibility for motorists
- Updated interior layouts designed to improve comfort and functionality for both drivers and riders
“These buses were designed with both safety and comfort in mind,” said Carolina Pecina, Coordinator of Transportation. “The upgraded safety features help protect our students on the road, while the improved interior design supports driver visibility, ergonomics, and a more comfortable ride for students—especially those with specialized transportation needs.”
The buses were purchased through Longhorn Bus Sales, a member of Holt Truck Centers.
School buses are one of several operational and infrastructure needs addressed through the 2025 Bond Program. Additional bond-funded projects—including facility improvements, safety upgrades, and equipment replacements—are currently moving through the planning, bidding, and purchasing phases.
Midway ISD will continue to share updates as projects progress and additional bond-funded investments are implemented across the district.
