90% of human brain development happens before age 5. In other words, waiting until kindergarten to start teaching our kids is already too late. By enrolling your child in Midway ISD's Prekindergarten program, you give them the gift of a brighter future. As adults, they also end up earning higher incomes, on average, than similar students who do not enroll in Prekindergarten.

Studies show that kids who attend Prekindergarten are:

• 3.5x more likely to be ready for kindergarten
• More likely to succeed in school
• More likely to go to college
• Less likely to drop out
• Less likely to become a teen parent
• Less likely to be arrested for a violent crime

General Information

What is the Pre-K/Kinder Preview? The Pre-K/Kinder Preview is an interactive event for families to explore their child’s future school, meet teachers and principals, and learn about the registration process. It also serves as an opportunity to pre-register for the upcoming school year.

When and where is the event? The Pre-K/Kinder Preview will be held on May 13 from 5:30 to 6:30 PM at all Midway ISD elementary campuses.

Who should attend? Parents and guardians of children eligible for Pre-K or Kindergarten in the upcoming school year should attend. This includes first-time school parents and families new to Midway ISD.

4. Why is it important to attend? Attending the preview helps parents understand the school environment, meet key staff members, ask questions, and complete pre-registration. Early registration ensures a smooth transition into school and helps the district plan for staffing and resources.

Eligibility & Enrollment

What are the age requirements for Pre-K and Kindergarten?

• Pre-K: Children must be at least 3 or 4 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the upcoming school year and meet eligibility criteria.
• Kindergarten: Children must be 5 years old on or before Sept. 1 of the upcoming school year.

What are the eligibility criteria for Pre-K? Pre-K students must meet at least one of the following eligibility criteria:

• Qualify for free or reduced lunch based on household income
• Be an English language learner
• Be homeless
• Be the child of an active-duty military member
• Be currently or previously in foster care
• Be the child of a recipient of the Star of Texas Award

Registration Process

How do I pre-register my child? Parents can pre-register at the event by completing necessary forms and providing required documents. Final Registration will be completed online after the event through the Midway ISD website, beginning July 9.

What documents do I need to bring for registration? Parents do not need to bring any documents to the Preview, but any documents that are brought helps the process for families and the school. Staff will be prepared to take these items to pre-register your child:  

• Current proof of residency from the last 30 days (gas, water, or electric bill, or a NEW signed lease)
• Immunization records (student must be current on immunizations)
• State-issued birth certificate
• Social Security card
• Parent/Guardian photo ID
• Guardianship papers, if applicable

What if I can’t attend the event? If you are unable to attend, you can still register your child online beginning July 9. Contact your child’s future campus for more information about school tours and enrollment.

Event Experience

What can I expect at the event?

• A chance to meet teachers, principals, and staff and see your child’s school
• A Q&A session to address any concerns
• Information about curriculum, daily routines, and transportation
• Assistance with the pre-registration process and information on the online registration process

Will there be activities for children? Yes! Children will have the opportunity to participate in fun, age-appropriate activities while parents gather information and complete registration steps.

Additional Information

What if my child has special needs? Staff members will be available to answer questions about special education services and accommodations. Parents can also connect with the Special Education Department for further assistance.

Will there be language support for non-English speaking families? Yes. Spanish-speaking staff will be available to assist families, and translated materials will be provided.

How can I spread the word to other families? Help us reach more families by sharing event details with friends, neighbors, and community groups. Flyers and digital materials are available at your child’s school.

What is the age qualification for Prekindergarten?

4K prekindergarten children must be four years old by September 1st of the school year in which they are applying. There are no exceptions to this requirement.

3K prekindergarten children must be three years old by September 1st of the school year in which they are applying. There are no exceptions to this requirement.

Where are Prekindergarten classes located?

4K prekindergarten classes are located on all elementary campuses in Midway ISD.

3K prekindergarten classes are located at Chapel Park, Hewitt Elementary, Park Hill, and South Bosque.

What are the times for Prekindergarten?

Prekindergarten is a five day a week program. Class will be from 7:40 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. 3K prekindergarten half day is from 7:40 to 11:40 a.m.

Is there a school supply list for Prekindergarten?

Yes, there are designated supplies for Prekindergarten. If you have any questions about school supplies, please contact your child’s teacher or the school they will attend.

Is transportation available?

4K prekindergarten students living in the attendance zone of the school they are attending and living outside a two-mile radius of the school may ride the bus to and from school. Separate bus rider registration is required. Transporation is not provided for 3K prekindergarten.

Does attendance really count in Prekindergarten?

Yes, it does. To receive the full benefit of the Prekindergarten program your child needs to attend class daily. Once you have enrolled your child in school they are expected to attend and fall under Compulsory Attendance Law. Refer to the student handbook and code of conduct regarding state and district attendance laws and policies.

Wouldn’t it be easier to just enroll now?

Kindergarten and Prekindergarten Round-Up is held at each elementary campus in the spring. Families are welcome to attend this informational session but enrollment does not open until early July.

Can we fill out online enrollment now?

Midway ISD will communicate when new student enrollment is available online. Please watch our website for information regarding the new school year enrollment. Please remember that filling out the online enrollment does not mean you qualify for Prekindergarten according to State of Texas qualifications. You are simply getting a head start on the paperwork. You must go to the Prekindergarten campus with the documentation needed to qualify for Prekindergarten. Students can't be placed in a class until you meet the qualifications and enrollment is complete and approved.

Currently, Midway ISD's waitlist is open for new out-of-district transfers, subject to available space in all K-12 grade levels. Applicants need to meet specific criteria and are expected to cover associated fees. Transfers will be evaluated on a first-come, first-served, case-by-case basis. Incomplete transfer packets will not be considered.
Out-of-district transfer applicants seek admission to the Midway school district, not a specific campus. Campus placement will be assigned based on available space and resources.

‍Please Note: Students on the waitlist will not be informed of acceptance until after school begins. Parents should not complete the MISD online enrollment process until being informed of their particular campus assignment.

Inter-district transfers are evaluated year by year, contingent on compliance with Policy FDA(LOCAL).  The district reserves the right to discontinue this practice should it be determined that it is no longer economically feasible or that space is no longer available.

Returning transfer students must reapply on an annual basis.

The Midway ISD Board of Trustees annually determines the transfer fee.

• The transfer fee for the 2024-25 school year is $1000.00 plus a $40 processing fee per student payable in equal payments of $520.00 before the first day of each semester.
• Revocation of transfer status will result if payments are not received on time. Payment will be made online in the MySchoolBucks app.
• Links to payment will be sent to parents upon approval.

Any appeals shall be made in accordance with FNG(LOCAL) and GF(LOCAL), as appropriate.

Midway ISD accepts new transfer students in grade levels K-12 each year as space allows.

Your child is a returning student if they were enrolled in a Midway ISD school on the last day of the prior school year.

An online registration form must be completed for ALL returning students. The guardian listed as priority 1 will receive an email with instructions for completing the online registration form along with a secure SnapCode for each returning student.

Teachers and parents use our ParentSquare communication tool, and a there's a tool for students inside ParentSquare called StudentSquare. It’s for teachers and school staff to communicate directly with students in high school and middle school, and for those students to communicate directly with their teachers.

Each student automatically has an account in StudentSquare based on their school email address. Students receive messages via email, but there are other ways to get StudentSquare messages: students can add their cell number to receive text messages, or they can download the StudentSquare app (iOS and Android) and receive notifications.

StudentSquare is a communication and organization tool designed to keep students informed and involved in their classes and extracurricular activities. It provides:
