Midway ISD is a sought-after district in the Central Texas area with nationally recognized teachers, custom curricula and supportive community involvement. Midway’s pre-K through 12th grade enrollment has grown to more than 8,750 students at eight elementary schools, two middle schools and a high school, while maintaining the highest expectations in academics.

Geographic Location

Midway ISD is a 6A school district located in the heart of central Texas. The district includes the communities of west Waco, Woodway, Hewitt, and Speegleville, plus parts of McGregor, Lorena and Crawford. Within 100 miles from Dallas or Austin, Waco is the 24th largest city in Texas and is the proud host of Baylor University, McLennan Community College, and Texas State Technical College.

Academics

Our comprehensive curriculum, taught by highly qualified teachers, provides a challenging and supportive learning environment for our students. We offer a wide range of courses in core subjects as well as elective courses, including advanced placement options. Our commitment to well-rounded education extends to social and emotional learning, with character development, leadership, and community service programs. Athletics

In Panther Nation, students of all ages can engage in a variety of sports activities and develop their skills while having fun. Our program is designed to promote physical fitness, teamwork, and sportsmanship, and our dedicated coaches and staff work tirelessly to provide a safe and supportive environment for our student-athletes. With a wide range of sports to choose from, including basketball, football, soccer, volleyball, track and field, and more, there is something for everyone. Fine Arts

Midway has been named one of the Nation's Best Communities for Music Education by the NAMM Foundation every year since 2007. Midway students receive all-state honors in band, orchestra and choir on an annual basis.  Our art students are perennial VASE and Jr.VASE awards winners and our band program competes at the Area level every year. Our choirs at multiple levels have often been invited to perform at TMEA. Midway's One Act Play competes annually, and our biannual musical with Broadway costumes and props is a favorite for local families.

From elementary student art on display at the Texas Education Agency office in Austin, to collaborations with a local hospital to provide stimulating art for patients, talented artists at all levels are able to show their work across Texas.

Special Populations

The goal of the Special Education Department at Midway is to assist students to move as independently as possible through the educational programs offered at Midway ISD and to fully prepare for life after graduation. Transition services help students grow from elementary through our 18+ MPower program.


Safety & Wellness

To ensure the safety of students, staff, and visitors, MISD implements measures such as security systems, emergency response plans, and safety training for staff and students. Additionally, wellness programs and initiatives promote physical and mental health among students and staff. By prioritizing safety and wellness, school districts create a healthy and positive learning environment for all members of the school community.

Technology Services

Midway ISD's Information Technology Department leads one of Central Texas's first 1:1 initiatives that provides a digital device for every student and teacher. Since 2013, MISD has been able to equip students for the future and concurrently level the playing field for home access to internet resources. The Information Technology Department is the key protector in internet safety, infrastructure for school business, and cybersecurity.

Prekindergarten (Ages 3&4)

Midway ISD offers half-day or full-day prekindergarten for qualifying 3-year old and 4-year olds. 90% of human brain development happens before age 5. PreK students are 3.5x more likely to be ready for kindergarten, and as adults, they also end up earning higher incomes, on average, than similar students who do not enroll in Prekindergarten.

Panther Kids After School

Panther Kids is a user-funded after-school program that takes pride in creating a fun and safe environment for students PreK - 8th grade. Each day, groups transition through various stations such as snack, outside playtime (weather permitting), gym time, table games, and arts & crafts activities.
