Social Media Rules of Engagement

The MISD Administration provides social media communications for the members of this district and the surrounding communities. Posts will be updated as often as possible to share with you information about Midway ISD and the achievements of our students, faculty and staff. The purpose is to celebrate the activities and achievements of students and staff.

Our decision to join social media was based on our understanding of the important role social media plays in today's society. We wanted to create an environment where the information about our district is readily available and in a variety of places. We hope you benefit from the information we share with you as we continue to expand our communications with the members of this school district and the community.

Please note: All postings of comments or discussion items are at the discretion of the page administrators to protect the privacy, rights, and respect of Midway ISD staff and students. Naming specific employees or students in a negative or disrespectful way will not be allowed. All postings will be reviewed by the page administrators and removed if they violate the privacy of students/staff or the district's guidelines regarding internet access and practices, or if they violate best practices of digital citizenship. We ask our students to behave responsibly online and expect our adult community members to set good examples for students.

We welcome your thoughts and comments and look forward to what you have to say. (Even negative opinions that are factually accurate, respectful, and related to page content are allowable.) However, we will not leave postings that:
• Break the law or encourage others to do so. This includes copyright and fair use laws.
• Contain abusive or inappropriate language or statements.
• Easily identify students or staff in defamatory, abusive, or negative way.
• Do not show proper consideration for others' privacy or respect.
• Are considered to likely offend or provoke others.
• Advertise/promote a product or service for personal gain.

• Are factually incorrect and/or perpetuate false information.

Please also note that we strive to maintain the most current information on our page and all discussion posts can be deleted after a 30-day period.

Media Guidelines

Midway ISD is a closed district. All media inquiries must go through the Communications Department as appointed by the Superintendent. Campus and department personnel shall direct all inquiries to the Communications Department.

  • Sports reporters may opt to arrange interviews through the Athletic Director.
  • The Superintendent’s secretary is the Election Officer and main contact for election information.

Under no circumstances is the media allowed on campuses or in district buildings without authorization from the Superintendent or a designated representative. Reporters may not approach a student, staff or parent for an unscheduled interview while on district property.

This extends to school buses or other forms of district transportation. For footage of campus buildings, students, staff or parents, submit a request to the Communications Department so arrangements can be made. There are two important reasons for these limitations:

(1) The District is required by federal law to ensure that any child videotaped or photographed has a current media authorization form on file. This is for the protection of our students’ privacy and safety.

(2) The main priority on every campus is the education of our children. Media on campus can be a considerable distraction to both students and staff. District representatives will endeavor to work with our media partners to supply what is needed to disseminate news to stakeholders without disrupting the educational process. Testing will not be interrupted under any circumstances.

Above all, we strive to provide an environment conducive to learning by minimizing interruptions and maintaining the privacy and safety of our students. By complying with these procedures, media partners will help uphold these goals and ensure positive, successful communications.

Transparent communication with MISD constituents is a top priority for the district. Reporters may be added to the Midway news release contact list by emailing communications@midwayisd.org.

The MISD Communications Director serves as Public Information Officer to address public information requests and liaison for crisis communications.
