Two High School Musicians Named 'Outstanding Performer' at State UIL Contest

Seniors in Midway High School’s band and orchestra programs were awarded one of the top distinctions for high school musicians in Texas.

In addition to earning Division 1 ratings—the highest rating possible—on their solo performances at the UIL Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest in May, violinist Alanna Schubert and French horn player Jacob Wiley both received the Outstanding Performer Award.

Out of approximately 100,000 students who participated in regional UIL music contests and 25,000 musicians who performed at TSSEC, Alanna and Jacob stood out among the top 2-3% of soloists recognized as Outstanding Performers.

The Outstanding Performer Award signifies superior musicianship and comes with a state-champion-size UIL medal identical to those awarded to state winners across all UIL events.

While in high school, Alanna and Jacob have also earned the prestigious honor of being named Texas Music Educators Association All-State musicians.

Alanna is a member of the Midway High School Orchestra directed by Dr. Beau Benson and Jacob plays in the Midway High School Band directed by Pam Hyatt.
