The Parish Memorial Scholarship was established by a generous donation from Miriam Wallace Powell of Henderson, TX, Paula Powell Parish, Padgett Parish Ogden, John Newell Parish, and Malcolm Tandy Parish of Waco. John T. Parish, Baylor BBA '73, was a former collegiate athlete and an avid sports fan.
John T. Parish extolled virtues of team athletics, believing sports help bring a strong work ethic and preparedness to everyday life. Paris's elder son, John Newell (MHS 2005), often touts his father's favorite phrase while holding his hand toward the sky with four fingers upward, "4th Quarter." This is a reminder to never give up even in the last quarter of play.
The Midway Touchdown Club is honored to select a senior football player each year to receive this scholarship in his loving memory.
