- Frequently Asked Questions
-
Does MISD mandate masks?
Masks are encouraged, but not required for students or staff.
Masks are also not the only protection factor utilized by MISD. Please see the extensive prevention and infection control efforts listed on our Covid Protocols page.
-
How many cases are in Midway ISD?
Midway ISD submits reports to the Waco-McLennan County Health District that are reflected in the CovidWaco.com community-wide dashboard statistics.
Data is also reported to TEA and posted on the DSHS site weekly. This data is listed cumulatively by campus and broken down by students or staff.
Midway campus principals send email notifications to parents for every case on campus. In addition, elementary teachers send classroom notifications. Staff also notify teachers, staff, and families of all students in a cohort of a class, extracurricular, and after-school program if a test-confirmed case participated in those classrooms or cohorts.

Where can my child be tested for COVID-19?
Midway ISD has rapid-testing (with parent permission) for symptomatic cases on campuses. However, to prevent spread on campuses, we do not offer drop-in testing for students who are not physically already on campus. Following is a list of other testing sites from healthcare providers and pharmacies:
-
Where can I get a COVID-19 vaccine?
Covidwaco.com has information for appointments and walk-in appointments.
Vaccines.gov has a vaccine locator tool.
Texas Health and Human Services has vaccine information for all ages, including children.
You can also check with your health care provider.
Midway ISD has hosted multiple student and staff clinics. Future clinics will be promoted via MISD email, website, and social media.

If I am not content with MISD's protocols, what are my options?
Midway ISD has extensive mitigation, prevention, and response protocols in place. You can review details on the main COVID-19 Protocols page under Prevention and Infection Control.
We realize there is an inherent risk in sending children to school face-to-face, and not all parents are comfortable with this option. As parents, you do have some public school options in addition to home school:
The Midway Virtual School has been renovated for the 21-22 school year to serve a limited number of medically fragile children or families with serious health concerns. More information is at www.midwayisd.org/mvs. Contact becky.odajima@midwayisd.org for more information.
Some Texas schools have a partnership with the Texas Virtual School Network, which is entirely online and does not require daily physical attendance at school. You can search these districts on the Texas Virtual School Network website. Midway does not have this type of partnership.
