As parents, we know you have many questions about your precious child's upcoming year.  Here are the answers about some of the most common questions we receive.  As always, please don't hesitate to ask about anything you have on your mind.  We are always glad to hear from you!

    BIRTHDAYS

Birthdays are wonderful celebrations in our room!  On his/her exciting day, the birthday child will receive a birthday autograph bandana as well as other special surprises!  His/her desk will be decorated with certificate, birthday cake bear, and a "Happy Birthday" sand toy.  We will sing a special birthday song, plug in our birthday lights, and have the birthday child choose our morning story from our Birthday Book Box!  During journal time, the children will all write encouraging comments about the child of honor.  If your child would like to bring a snack to share with the class, that would be fantastic.  You may send any item for snack your child desires on that day (cupcakes, cookies, ice cream sandwiches, chips, donuts, popsicles, etc.).  You are also welcome to send special napkins or plates, but it is not necessary.  We will contact you in May to arrange to celebrate your child's summer birthday.

    STAR OF THE WEEK

Each child will have the opportunity to be Star of the Week once during the year.  When your child is Star of the Week, he/she will get to bring and display pictures of family and friends on our "Star" board, bring their favorite book to share and a special show and tell!

    VOLUNTEERS

Parents are a vital part of our busy classroom, and we are so thankful to be at a school where parents are so involved, helpful, and encouraging!  We welcome anyone who is willing to volunteer, either at home or school, and on a regular basis, as needed, or for special days.  we will pass around a sign up sheet during Parent Orientation for you to indicate how and when you'd like to be involved.  We also encourage you to become involved with SHARE, which is an extraordinary volunteer program at South Bosque directed by our PTA.  Please always sign in at the office and put on a visitors badge before coming to our room.  We can't wait to work with you!

    PARENT COMMUNICATION

We plan to be in constant communication with you this year, as we want you to feel as comfortable and involved as possible with what is going on in your child's day at school.  I plan to let you know what is going on in several ways.  First, homework, completed work, and important notes will be sent home often in your child's home folder.  Please check and empty this folder every night and return it to school the following day with completed homework, forms, and notes to us.  I will also be sending frequent emails discussing what we are learning and reminders about special assignments and events.  Third, I will send a newsletter at the beginning of each month with a  grade level calendar on the back so you will have a great visual of what lies ahead for your second grader!  You are welcome to call us before or after school to chat on the phone or set up a meeting at 761-5720.  Email is also another way (probably the best) to get a hold of us quickly, as we check it in the morning, during lunch, during my conference period, and after school.  My email address is   melle.bain@midwayisd.org . I would love to talk with you any time!

    TRANSPORTATION

If your child is being picked up from school or going home a different way than usual, please send a note to school that morning.  We are not allowed to release any child to someone not on their pick up list in the office without a written note from the parents.  Also, if you need to come get your child from school early, please stop in the office and sign him/her out.  Then, the office staff will call our room.  This is all for the safety of these valuable children, which is our top priority. Thanks for your cooperation!
