  • “Mental health is ‘a state of well-being in which the individual realizes his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her community.’ It is estimated that only about 17% of U.S adults are considered to be in a state of optimal mental health.”

     Facts about Children’s Mental Health:

    • One in five children has a diagnosable mental disorder.
    • One in 10 youth has serious mental health problems that are severe enough to impair how they function at home, school, or in the community.
    • The onset of major mental illness may occur as early as 7 to 11 years old.
    • 21% of low-income children and youth ages 6 through 17 have mental health problems.
    • 75% to 80% of children and youth in need of mental health services do not receive them.

    Clients that are diagnosed with bi-polar disorder, schizophrenia, schizoaffective disorder, and major depression are offered assistance with medication. Brief cognitive-behavioral therapy is available for clients with major depression. Variety of services for mentally ill, suicide prevention, psychiatric services.

     Klaras Center for Families (known as KCF) assists children and adolescents, ages three through 17, who evidence significant emotional and/or behavioral difficulties. These children must demonstrate a need for intensive services and meet eligibility requirements.
