The days of students sitting in rows listening to teachers lecture for 45 minutes are long gone, and as school districts transition to 21st century learning models, Midway is at the forefront of this trend. Walk into a classroom at Midway, and you will see students actively engaged in collaborative group work where they are critically thinking together to solve authentic problems. With the bond election during the 2013-2014 school year, Midway took a leap forward into the 21st century with the 1:1 initiative. Each and every student within Midway ISD has access to their own individual iPad to enhance their learning experience and prepare them for the world awaiting them after high school. Access to such devices forces teachers and administrators to reimagine how students engage curriculum, and this is where the Instructional Technology team is of vital importance.
The role of each instructional technologist is to evaluate new and emerging technologies to better enhance instruction, lead professional development for the staff of Midway ISD, assist faculty in improving instruction, manage the implementation of new technologies, research best practices and in turn help teachers put them into practice. The instructional technologists are part of the innovative lifeblood that is propelling Midway into the future of education.
