Midway Reads
A Community Reading Initiative
Midway Reads is an inter-disciplinary educational program developed by the Library Media Specialists of the Midway Independent School District to provide the Midway community with a common reading experience. Research shows that when a community reads the same book the experience promotes literacy, fellowship, and the spontaneous discussion of thoughts and ideas throughout that community. (Hagishi)
This program provides families with the opportunity to establish the habit of reading together on a regular basis. Jim Trelease, in The Read Aloud Handbook, states that “Reading aloud stimulates the imagination, stretches the attention span, improves listening comprehension, enriches vocabulary, and nurtures emotional development.”
Goals:
Provide the community with a common reading experience.
Promote literacy, fellowship, and the spontaneous discussion of thoughts and ideas throughout the community.
Help families build a quality home library.
Order forms are available online and in the library.
Turn in the form with your check or money order to the Spring Valley library.
Thank you for your participation.
