• The 4 Cs of a School Counselor?

    Curriculum

Students from the elementary campuses in Midway ISD focus on the curriculum of Six Pillars of Character- Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Trustworthiness, Fairness, and Good Citizenship. Our goal is to continue building on these traits through individual and group counseling sessions. We also discuss how they can start a chain reaction of kindness through Rachel’s Challenge.

    Coordination

Mrs. George and Mrs. Johnson coordinate activities for special events like the National Red Ribbon Week with the help of the RVI PTA, Goodwill Ambassadors, Career Day, 4th grade tours of River Valley, 6th graders touring the Middle School, and Rachel's Challenge. We also attend Professional Learning Community (PLC) meetings to help coordinate interventions for students with academic and behavioral needs.

    Consultation

We encourage parents to call or email to make appointments with Mrs. George and Mrs. Johnson to discuss an individual concern, normalize a behavior, or request parenting information. Parenting information and resources can be found on our Resources for Families webpage. We are also available to work with teachers and students on classroom management, academic concerns, attendance, and behavioral issues.

    Counseling

While school counselors are not therapist, they do work with students individually and in small-group sessions to assist them as they learn and practice life-long skills like working cooperatively, making friend, processing feelings, and resolving problems. Referrals to Mrs. George and Mrs. Johnson can be initiated by a staff member, a parent, and administrator or even the student. A list of area counselors and therapists is available upon request.
