Please be wary of companies claiming to sell ads or products on behalf of Midway. We are SO GRATEFUL to have a supportive community, but we are so sad to see our local companies sending their support to profit an outside company instead of the students they believe they are helping.Actual Example:
Recently, a company left a voicemail with a generous MISD sponsor. The voicemail seems legit saying, “I’m the project coordinator out there for Midway High School, and we are looking for one, and one only bank to be on the back of the varsity girls’ and guys’ basketball shirts.” We believe the name of this company to be Touchdown Sports, although the company name is not on the voicemail as the call seems to come from someone representing MHS.
Luckily this sponsor stays in close touch with MISD and checked with our development office, because Touchdown Sports is NOT contracted by MISD to sell shirt sponsorships.
MISD received 24 football shirts in the mail that we never approved of or requested. The printing is crooked and stiff. The branding is not correct. The shirts were wrinkled. One sponsor’s ad is so blurry that it is mostly illegible. And the cost of the ads is much higher than it would cost for the quality of the shirts and the low quantity... If we estimate the shirts cost approximately $120 total, whereas at least $1,500 in ads were sold, then this company profited $1380+ and no Midway teams received the sponsorship funding or desirable products.
So, please be aware! While this sales structure may possibly be legal to send us unrequested items, it is not in the best interest of our students or local companies.
Midway fundraisers are only sold by MISD staff, students and students’ parents. The only outside company approved by Midway ISD is a contracted service for Midway Athletics (not a fundraiser); Varsity News Network (VNN) will be selling ads on the new athletics site, www.midwaypanthers.org. Midway Athletics gets a portion of ad sales, as well as free website hosting, custom tools for notifying media and fans, and tech support. The VNN sales rep, Scott Duncan, will have an official letter from MISD confirming our partnership. VNN works within our guidelines, contracts, and generates valuable funds, products and services for MISD Athletics.
MISD’s Development Office keeps a database of legit, approved fundraisers in the district. Please do not hesitate to contact Suzi Pagel, Director of Corporate & Community Development, at 254-761-5614 or firstname.lastname@example.org to confirm any sales pitches you receive.
