Midway ISD uses a standards-based report card for students in kindergarten, first grade, and second grade. This report card is an important step for our district as we work to ensure that every student is progressing toward mastery of grade-level learning standards. Midway believes that the utilization of a standards-based report card will improve communication and strengthen the relationships among students, teachers, and parents. This report card is the product of the collaborative efforts of curriculum specialists, grade-level teachers, content coordinators, campus administrators, and Midway parents.
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) creates a set of learning standards for each grade level and content ares. These standards describe what each child should learn and be able to do at each grade level in all subjects. The report card is designed to give specific information about a child's progress academically, socially, and emotionally. Standards-based report cards provide a higher level of consistency of expectations among teachers across the district. The report card helps students, teachers, and parents focus on learning standards, while at the same time giving students an opportunity to receive help if they are not making adequate progress. Parents will know which standards their child has learned and which skills their child needs to learn to be well-prepared for the next grade level.
Communication and a strong partnership with parents are vital to the success of students. Implementing a standards-based report card is another way Midway ISD is striving to involve parents in the learning process.

The Midway Curriculum and Instruction Department expresses appreciation for the efforts of the teachers, administrators, and parents who participated in the design and implementation of the MISD standards-based report cards. The focused collaboration, critical feedback, and thoughtful input provided by all stakeholders led to important refinements in the report cards and development of tools to make the reporting of student progress more informative to every one involved.
